In November 2019, Virtual tours were only being used on a relatively small number of Rightmove listings. Lockdown was announced on March 23rd, 2020 in the UK, which saw the use of technology spike in all industries. With restrictions on movement, physical interaction and transactions were almost bought to a standstill, massively effecting the property industry.
Agents have been forced to adapt, although the lockdown has now been eased, social distancing restrictions are still in place, making it difficult to view properties. The answer for the restrictions had to be virtual viewings.
Both virtual tour and video use grew dramatically between November 19 and April 20, our Rightmove statistics show. Between November and today, the use of Virtual tours has more than doubled for both Sales and Lettings. Video use began to climb but has proven to be a place holder to present viewings whilst professional and accurate presentations are put in place, as the use has halted in recent weeks.
The amount of Virtual tours being used on listings has continued to steadily climb throughout April and May, as they have become the professional standard in the property industry.
