What to grow in June

There is plenty to keep you busy in the garden in June. With longer days of warmth and the threat of frost gone, you can start planting your seeds for the summer. Here are our top picks of seasonal things to grow this month:

Beetroot

Add some colour to your salads with homegrown beetroot (or chard!). Simply delicious and easy to grow, they can be sown from March to July/August and will provide you with a good crop of vegetables. Requiring 45-65 days to harvest, plant them in June to get ready for those hot day BBQs.

Spring onions

Our favourite space saving crop! Easy to grow and provides high yields, spring onions can be enjoyed all summer. Ready to eat in around 8 weeks or 6inches of growth, if you do not pull the onions young, many varieties turn in to small normal onions later in the season.

Top tip: good onion plant partners are members of the cabbage family, tomatoes, and strawberries.

Pak Choi

Easy to grow, Pak choi is hardier than many other leafy crops. Ready to harvest in only 30 days for the nutritious baby leaves, this is a great alternative to your normal greens. If you wait a little long, after 45 days you will get mature to full-sizes bulbs of Pak choi.
